Why did Daft Punk break up?

Daft Punk, a group formed by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, have officially separated, according to their publicist who dished the news to Variety magazine.

The group shared a video featuring Thomas and Guy walking around the desert in their well-known helmets they use to conceal their identity.

One of the helmet-clad men then looks at the other, takes off his leather jacket and shows off an energy pack on this back.

The pair initially formed a band called Darlin’ - inspired by the Beach Boys - with their friend Laurent Brancowitz in 1992.

They released a song but it was criticized in the Melody Maker - which described it as “a daft punky thrash.”

The group decided to rebrand and name themselves Daft Punk due to the negative comment and focused on electronic music instead.

Laurent left the band and formed his own called Phoenix.

Daft Punk officially released their first single, New Wave in 1994.

Two years later they debuted their first studio album, Homework and became one of the biggest records of the year.

With the success they received, Thomas and Guy released their second project, Discovery, at the beginning of the new millennium.

Their single One More Time made the list of the 500 greatest songs of all time by Rolling Stone.

Did Daft Punk release new music?

Daft Punk’s fourth and final album, Random Access Memory, was released in 2013.

The album included their top hit, Get Lucky, and won five Grammy Awards the following year, including Best Album.

Daft Punk co-produced Kanye West's sixth studio album, Yeezus, which was also released in 2013.
