Ben Falcone Says Wife Melissa McCarthy Was "Really Scary" in College

February 2024 · 2 minute read

For some couples, it is love at first sight. For Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, it was fright at first sight.

Falcone, 40, stopped by Chelsea Lately on Monday, July 14, and dished to Chelsea Handler about the time that he first met McCarthy, now 43.

“She is a couple years older than me,” he explained to set the scene for their early interaction, which took place in Illinois. “She was in college in my hometown where I went to high school.”

“She was this goth person,” Falcone continued about McCarthy. “She had blue hair and she was really scary… in a good way! Scary and pretty! I had long bangs and a couple of earrings and a Clockwork Orange shirt and Tevas. I had a whole situation… I was light-alt… The girls that I knew were also light-alt, and they would look at Melissa—we didn’t know it was Melissa—but they would go, ‘Man, I wish my mom would let me dress like that.'”

“So I knew who she was all those years ago and then I married her many years later,” the Bridesmaids star added.

The funny pair reconnected at The Groundlings comedy school in Los Angeles as adults, and said “I do” in October 2005. They are now the parents to two daughters, Vivian, 7, and Georgette, 4.
